ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Jack graduated from IU in 1939 where he majored in music. Jack was a member of Acacia Fraternity, played first chair trumpet in IU’s Marching 100 for three years, was student manager on the basketball team and had his own campus dance band which he was extremely proud of. After IU, in 1942, Jack enlisted in the Navy where he served as a Lieutenant on a PT (patrol torpedo) boat. When asked what his favorite thing about IU he said that “it just felt like family”. He felt like he was part of something. He encourages others to attend IU because of the feeling of family on campus. His son Terry (past president of Atlanta Chapter of IUAA) and grandson both attended IU. Unfortunately Jack recently passed away due to complications from a fall he had in 2004. Jack Walts was Atlanta Chapter of IUAA’s biggest fan. He attended almost every game watching event and was always a pleasure to talk with. He will be missed!
